She was a musician, creator, and performer who broke boundaries in the music world. She was at once modern and traditional. She was a Mexican American who brought two worlds in a distinctive manner. It was an emerging star who's tragic death threw it into turmoil. And as is common for a gifted, charming and young artist is lost too quickly and is buried, many mourned the greatness she was yet to achieve. In the following years, fans were motivated to do their best in order to ensure that her accomplishments would not go unnoticed. Her tragic death in a shooting provoked a response from the Latino Community that was comparable as the reaction to deaths of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. Selena was an extremely popular Latino artist across North America. Her music transcended boundaries and brought joy to youngsters as well as older adults. Selena was a sexy and flamboyant stage performer and was often referred to by the Latina Madonna. Off-stage Selena was an excellent role model since she actively participated in antidrug and AIDS campaigns.
